General Overseer

General Overseer

Greetings!
I am Nii John Garshong of Africa! The Head Missionary and General Overseer of the World Bible Missionary Church. I am a pastor, husband, father and long time Bible teacher teaching in Bible colleges across the country since 1983. I have had the privilege of serving in the field of missions for over 43 years and counting.

In 1975, I was invited by Brother Maxwell Amewokpor now an elder in the Church of Pentecost to visit the town of Sogakofe in the Volta region of Ghana. The following year, while working with the Ghana Evangelical Society (GES) under the guidance of Rev. Enoch Emmanuel Agbozo, I went back to Sogakofe with a team of Christian students to organize a Gospel crusade. I praise the Lord for His work through us and the salvation and deliverance He gave to the community particularly the students of Sogakofe Secondary School.

The testimonies of the many people who accepted Jesus Christ was not only overwhelming and motivating; it also increased the burden on me to preach the Gospel especially to young people in Secondary Schools. In the 1970's the focus on school and youth ministry was very limited. Of course most schools had Scripture Unions but lacked knowledge of the person, the work, power and the gifts of the Holy Spirit so that more needed to be done to prepare the students for the challenges of the world outside the "comfort and security" of student life.

The Lord strengthened me in this area of ministry and took me to several Secondary Schools, Training Colleges, Institutes and Universities in the country. Through this ministry and the tremendous workings of the Holy Spirit, many people accepted Jesus as their Lord and Saviour and received deliverance from sickness and diseases, drug addiction, demonic oppression and possession, fetish and occultic powers and different forms of bondage.

As I reflect on this humble beginning, I give praise to the Lord for the men and women who have passed through our ministry. These "soldiers of the cross" can be found in disciplines including full time ministry of the Gospel, Politics, Administration, Medicine, Academia, Law, etc. in Ghana and abroad.

Since then, the Lord has led me to bring the Gospel and salvation of Jesus Christ to several communities throughout the country and beyond.

I testify of two very important lessons the Lord taught me at the early stages of my call, which is also the driving and sustaining force of my ministry. Firstly, I learnt the art of working in partnership with the Local Council of Churches  (LCC) and flowing from the first, the second lesson was to support the LCC to strengthen inter and intra Church relations and not to open church branches. This explains why in our work in the communities we have collaborated with the LCC to foster unity among the Christian churches and at the Gospel crusades and other evangelistic activities, we assist the LCCs to implement the framework they developed to allocate the "new souls" won to Christ among themselves.

Our missionary work has since 1999 taken on another dimension i.e. moving from the emphasis on winning "souls" to Christ through the preaching of the Gospel to in Jude providing for the material needs of community members. This comprehensive approach is influenced by the fact that our ministry is taking us to mostly "hard to reach" communities where we come face to face with the social and economic challenges of community members. Experience has taught us that for the Gospel to become relevant to people, there must be a mutually reinforcing approach involving soul winning interacting with meeting welfare needs. Our missionary vision for the future is anchored on the delivery of a mix package of soul winning and social services. The Apostle James elaborates this further in his epistle James 2:14-16.

Indeed, we have come to appreciate how the little things we take for granted in the urban areas mean a lot to our folks in the rural areas. I recall the happiness on the faces of the 2000 children we fed in Dzodze St. Anthony's Hospital when we donated medical supplies.
In our own small way, we have provided some basic needs such as health care, academic and vocational training, income generation, donation of clothing etc. As the challenge to expand the depth and scope of our missionary work increases, we are calling for partners to join us to bring the salvation of Jesus Christ, hope and a "better life" to our people. We are grateful for the support received in the past from our partners while calling for an expanded partnership on missions. As Jesus said, "....ask the Lord of the harvest for more labourers". (Matthew 9: 37-38).

This policy guideline provides the framework on missions and the mobilization of resources for a renewed partnership on missionary work.

It is my expectation that this document will contribute to increase and deepen the understanding of the Church and the Christian community in general on missions as we strive to make more disciples and workers for the Lord.

I know that this is possible for as our motto says in Zephaniah 3:17 "The Lord thy God in the midst of thee is mighty; he will save, he will rejoice over thee with joy; he will rest in his love, he will joy over thee with singing".
